In an exclusive interview with Goal, Joe Gomez explains why the £75 million man can be compared to the great modern defenders


It’s funny how things turn out in football sometimes.

Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are best mates these days, as close off the pitch as they are on it. On Liverpool’s three-game tour of the USA, they have been inseparable; laughing, joking, working, encouraging, debating.

“We talk every day, about literally
everything,” Gomez tells Goal in an exclusive interview. “I’ve said it before, but he’s like my big brother.”

With Chelsea looking to strengthen their squad in the summer, the Blues may need to sell some players to raise funds for Frank Lampard's transfer target. Frank Lampard reportedly informs board of the striker he wants to sign

It looks pretty certain that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be looking to sign a new striker in the summer. He has repeatedly spoken in public about adding attacking reinforcements to his squad, and was disappointed that a new striker was not added in January after a number of failed pursuits. Current options Olivier Giroud is out of contract in June, and Michy Batshuayi has failed to step up. The burden has been left with Tammy Abraham, now Lampard wants to add some top quality competition for the clubs leading goalscorer. According to  SPORT , Lampard has asked the Chelsea board to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic on loan next season. The 22-year old has struggled to hit the ground running since making his big money move to La Liga, and this kind of deal could be something that suits all parties. I am sure we will be hearing more on this pursuit over the coming months.

Jürgen Klopp: ‘Messi is the best, but I admire Ronaldo’

Jürgen Klopp has sided with  Barcelona  ace Lionel Messi over  Juventus ’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the debate over who the best in the world is. The  Liverpool  manager  was asked , “who is the best: Messi or Ronaldo?” “For me, Messi, but I couldn’t admire Ronaldo more than I do already,” Klopp answered. “We’ve played against both Messi and Ronaldo already, and both are almost impossible to defend. “If you could paint yourself a perfect player, he would have Ronaldo’s height, he could jump as high or run as fast as Ronaldo can. And what is then added to that, is his attitude. It is absolutely perfect and professional, it couldn’t be any better. “And on the other side there is the small Messi, who makes everything look so simple. And therefore I like him maybe a little bit more as a player on the pitch.
