Lampard keen to extend Giroud and Willian contracts at Chelsea

The manager says the players both have feelings for the club and he is hopeful they will see the season out at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is hopeful that deals can be struck with Olivier Giroud and Willian if the Premier League season resumes.

The coronavirus pandemic, which has left Britain the worst effected country in the world behind only the USA in terms of deaths, has seen top-flight play stopped, although there is hope that it may resume in June.

With nine matches left to play, there is little prospect that the campaign will be concluded before the end of next month, when the contracts of the France and Brazilinternationals are up.

Frank Lampard reportedly informs board of the striker he wants to sign

It looks pretty certain that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be looking to sign a new striker in the summer. He has repeatedly spoken in public about adding attacking reinforcements to his squad, and was disappointed that a new striker was not added in January after a number of failed pursuits. Current options Olivier Giroud is out of contract in June, and Michy Batshuayi has failed to step up. The burden has been left with Tammy Abraham, now Lampard wants to add some top quality competition for the clubs leading goalscorer. According to  SPORT , Lampard has asked the Chelsea board to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic on loan next season. The 22-year old has struggled to hit the ground running since making his big money move to La Liga, and this kind of deal could be something that suits all parties. I am sure we will be hearing more on this pursuit over the coming months.
